Lower Grades

In Austin Waldorf's Lower Grades, our students' developmental needs are nurtured in a structured, cooperative, and non-competitive environment designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning.

In addition to a comprehensive academic curriculum, students at Austin Waldorf School receive instruction in vocal and instrumental music, Spanish and German, painting and drawing, modeling, woodworking (in upper grades), handcrafts like knitting and sewing, games and movement education, and eurythmy—an art form that combines creative movement with music and speech.

Growing Together: A Unique Educational Journey

The day begins with a warm handshake and greeting at the door, where each student is personally welcomed by their teacher—establishing connection, trust, and presence. This is followed by a moment of quiet reverence as the class gathers to recite the morning verse, a unifying tradition spoken by Waldorf students around the world. What makes our education truly unique is the Class Teacher Model and the Main Lesson Block schedule, allowing for deep, immersive learning and a strong, consistent relationship between teacher and student.

Class Teacher Model

Each Class Teacher remains with their students from Grades 1–8, allowing for a deep, personal understanding of each child’s strengths and challenges. This continuity ensures that teachers can provide the best support as students grow and develop.

Main Lesson Block

The Main Lesson begins each school day and focuses on a specific subject, delivered in a block schedule. This allows for immersive learning through storytelling, vocabulary development, writing exercises, and creative arts, ensuring that all learning styles are engaged.
