Student Life

High School Experience Through the Lens of our Students

At Austin Waldorf, high school is more than books and homework. From day one, you’re welcomed into a close-knit community where student life is about belonging and ownership.

Whether you’ve grown up in Waldorf or are new to it, you’ll quickly find your place at our high school. Years of shared experiences—festivals, class trips, artistic performances, and community service—form the foundation for the deep bonds and meaningful traditions that define high school life.

Education here extends far beyond the classroom, woven into every aspect of student life to nurture academic, personal, and social growth. With this strong foundation, student life flourishes into a dynamic blend of learning, leadership, and fun—from theater and clubs to outdoor adventures, international travel, and unforgettable moments with friends.

The well-rounded, considerate, thoughtful people I've seen graduating from this high school have floored me. I'm so honored my family is a part of this school, this community, this village.

Seniors arrive a day early for a meaningful evening dedicated to reflection, intention-setting, and making memories as they begin their final year together. With campfires, group challenges, storytelling, and time under the stars, the High School Campout sets the tone for a year rooted in friendship, unity, and lasting connection.

High School Campout: A Tradition of Connection

The school year kicks off with a beloved tradition—the High School Campout, a two-night adventure that brings all four grades together to build community and school spirit. It’s a chance to step outside the classroom, connect across grades, and start the year with shared purpose and fun.

Adventures Close to Home (and Far Away)

Want to go global? Students can participate in international exchange programs during their 10th or 11th grade year. And for seniors, the journey ends with a meaningful capstone trip—recently to Nicaragua—that combines growing together into one final experience of service, cultural immersion, and lasting memories. It’s a powerful way to celebrate everything you’ve built as a class—by giving back and sharing in something bigger than yourselves.

At Austin Waldorf High School, learning goes far beyond the classroom. Throughout the year, you'll take part in hands-on field trips around Austin—like canoeing on Lake Austin, visiting art museums and tea houses, or sculpting at SandFest in Port Aransas.

Our clubs reflect the unique interests of our student body—ranging from music, art, and drama to robotics, gardening, social justice, and more. These activities provide space for creativity, leadership, and collaboration, all while encouraging personal initiative and a spirit of curiosity.

Get in the Game (or the Kitchen… or a Club)

Whether you’re into sports, arts, leadership, or trying something totally new, you’ll find your space here. Join a soccer or volleyball team, explore photography, cook global meals in the International Cooking Club, or get involved in Debate, Student Council, or Model UN. If you’ve got a passion, there’s a way to run with it.

Cup Teams: The Ultimate Roadie Competition

Think Hogwarts meets field day. Our all-high-school Cup Teams mix grades 9–12 into spirited teams that face off in fun, quirky challenges—from trivia battles and talent shows to games, scavenger hunts, and more. The winning team gets their name engraved on the legendary Cup trophy—and, of course, ultimate bragging rights.

At Austin Waldorf, we value strong cross-grade relationships, and Cup Teams are one way we help build a supportive and connected high school community. They're designed to foster a sense of belonging, boost school spirit, and create meaningful bonds among students of all ages.
