International Exchange Programs

Please note that our exchange program is available for high school students only. English proficiency is required for all international students. Applications should be submitted 8-10 months prior to the semester or year of interest.

What It Is

The Foreign Exchange Program at Austin Waldorf School offers students the opportunity to connect with Waldorf schools in Spanish- and German-speaking countries. Our German program includes exchanges with schools in cities like Berne, Freiburg, Darmstadt, Überlingen, Stuttgart, Schwäbisch Hall, and Munich. The Spanish program connects students with schools in Buenos Aires, Lima, Chia, Cali, Fraijanes, and Lugo. We also welcome students to explore additional exchange opportunities with Waldorf schools in other Spanish- or German-speaking regions, tailored to their travel interests.

The Details

Exchanges typically last between 6 weeks and 3 months, with most students participating during the spring semester of their second year of high school. There are no additional tuition, fees, or living expenses (beyond pocket money). As part of the exchange, students attend their exchange partner’s Waldorf school, live with their partner’s family, and immerse themselves in the local culture through planned activities and daily life. Later, the exchange partner comes to Austin Waldorf School to share a similar experience, attending classes, staying with the host family, and engaging in community life.

This program offers an immersive cultural experience, helping students gain independence, a deeper understanding of the world, and the skills to become thoughtful global citizens.
