Our High School:
Engaging Critical Thinking and Capacity

At Austin Waldorf High School, our students are ready to meet abstract ideas with growing intellectual depth and self-awareness. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to meet the developmental needs of adolescents, engaging their curiosity and expanding their capacity for independent thought. The main lesson continues into high school, providing a deep, focused start to each day. It is followed by a skills class that reinforces practical competencies as part of the students' daily rhythm.

Our high school experience is grounded in the arts and practical work. Our students take part in blacksmithing, weaving, stained glass, painting, sand sculpture, and stone carving. They continue their studies in foreign languages, music, drama, movement, and athletics — all essential elements of a well-rounded education.

Our graduates leave as creative, capable, and compassionate thinkers — confident in who they are and prepared to contribute with heart, purpose, and global awareness.

International Exchange Program

The Foreign Exchange Program at Austin Waldorf School offers students the opportunity to connect with Waldorf schools in Spanish- and German-speaking countries. Exchanges typically last between 6 weeks and 3 months, with most students participating during the spring semester of their second year of high school.

Balancing Depth and Breadth in Daily Learning

At Austin Waldorf High School, each day is thoughtfully structured to support both deep academic engagement and balanced, whole-student development. Begining the day with Main Lesson allows students to engage deeply with core subjects, building critical thinking and a meaningful connection to the material. The subsequent skill classes fill the remainder of the day reinforcing and expanding on that foundation, nurturing the artistic, physical, and practical capacities of each student. Together, these complementary approaches ensure that students not only gain a rich academic experience but also earn graduation credits through a balanced combination of Main Lesson and skills coursework across all subjects.

Main Lesson

Main Lesson block is a cornerstone of Waldorf education. Each morning begins with a 90-minute immersive lesson that focuses on a single subject for a period of 3–4 weeks. This structure allows students to dive deeply into topics such as history, science, literature, or mathematics, fostering intellectual engagement, critical thinking, and a lasting connection to the material.

Skills Based Classes

Following Main Lessson, students move through skill-based classes that support and expand their academic, artistic, and physical development. Each week includes four periods of academic skill classes, two periods of physical education, three periods of music and eurythmy, and six periods of visual and practical arts.
